A Path Appears
First 100pgs

FOR NEXT THURSDAY:  Please also be aware that we are discussing the first 100 pages of A Path Appears on Thursday next week.  It is an easy read and very interesting.  Please also do a basic reading blog for that section (short summary, 3 quotes from your annotations with commentary, and a couple questions).

Summary:

A Path Appears is a book that to encourage others, rich and poor alike, to join in this push to improve the world. It also tries to make Americans involved in issues that are still today tried to be fixed. There are many stories that not a lot of people have heard that are amazing and productive to the world.

Quotes:
“A $25 program can reach a pregnant American woman who smokes and explain how doing so puts her child at risk., leading 14 percent of those pregnant women to quit smoking”. Pg. 11
This quotes stands out to me, because I would put money into that program. Woman who smokes are not conscious on how it could effect the birth of the child. She is putting her life and her child at risk and I do believe we should do something about it. It even explains that smoking during pregnancy increases testosterone in the uterus which also increases a higher risk of imprisoning their child.

“When a women smoked a pack a day during pregnancy, the offspring were more than twice as likely to be violent criminals as adults.” pg. 52
I found that quote interesting because, we already know that since babies have smaller head circumferences on average, nicotine increases the testosterones in the uterus which may lead to a greater penchant of aggressiveness, particularly among sons.

“Maternal attachment creates more self-confident children who then feel secure enough to venture out toad try new things.” pg.59
This quotes explains that maternal attachment not only just creates more self-confident but it basically is healthy for the children’s health. This attachment attempts to guide children by emotion coaching, reasoning, and constructive problem solving.
